Dr. Elma Tabari’s journey as a professional athlete is one of extraordinary resilience, discipline, and vision. Born and raised in Iran, she did not follow the traditional path of schoolchildren. Instead, from a young age, she trained and lived at national canoeing camps—often far from home and family. While her peers pursued education in familiar settings, she was navigating the demanding world of elite sports, serving as the captain of Iran’s national canoeing team for over a decade.
Despite the rigors of high-performance athletics, Dr. Tabari was a top student. She began her days at 4:00 AM, studying quietly in the prayer rooms of her athletic dormitories. From 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, she committed herself to intensive training, representing Iran on international stages and winning multiple gold and silver medals across Asia and Europe, including at the Asian Canoe Championships and Junior World Cup in Italy.
Her athletic achievements are extensive:
- 10 years as national team captain
- Gold medals in K2 and K4 events at Asian championships
- Multiple national gold medals across K1, K2, and K4 events
- Top 5 placements at the World Cup Canoe Championships
Yet she never allowed sport to eclipse scholarship. As the youngest member of the team, while others rested after practice, she returned to her books—eventually becoming the top student in her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs at the University of Guilan.
Initially accepted into medical school to pursue dentistry, her calling shifted toward the science behind athletic performance. She earned her Ph.D. in Sport Physiology, where her dissertation explored mitochondrial biogenesis in diabetic models—a reflection of her enduring commitment to evidence-based, human-centered science. Her earlier research focused on the physiological and anthropometric profiles of elite athletes, contributing foundational knowledge to women’s sport science in Iran.
Over the years, Dr. Tabari has also served as:
- University Instructor (Guilan University, Bandaranzali University)
- National Team Canoeing Coach (invited in 2007 and 2011)
- Head and Lieutenant Head of provincial canoeing organizations
- Certified Coach in Canoeing and Physical Fitness
Her remarkable dual legacy—as both elite athlete and accomplished scientist—uniquely positions her to lead the Longevity H.U.B. She brings with her not just knowledge, but lived experience of what it means to pursue optimal health with determination, discipline, and purpose.
